Capt. Lakshmi Sahgal, a founding member of AIDWA, was a leading freedom fighter , who worked with Subhash Chandra Bose in the Indian National Army - INA and was instrumental in setting up Rani Jhansi regiment , the women' s wing of INA. Her struggle did not end with freedom from foreign rule but she was committed to economic and social freedom for the poor, downtrodden and for women. She is our living inspiration and her struggles for equality and women's emancipation constitute AIDWA' s proud legacy.
