AIDWA Denounces Heinous Attacks on JNU Students and Faculty,Calls for Immediate Countrywide Solidarity Actions

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly denounces the heinous attack on students and teachers, including girls and women, by masked armed thugs in the JNU campus yesterday. That these thugs entered the campus without any hindrance points to the fact that it was a pre-planned attack. The connivance of the police, university security staff and administration with the SanghParivar affiliated ABVP and the armed thugs of the RSS-BJP-Bajrang Dal is extremely shocking.
AIDWA Welcomes Life Imprisonment Of Former BJP MLA Kuldip Sengar

AIDWA welcomes the sentencing of former BJP MLA Kuldip Singh Sengar to imprisonment for the remainder of his life in the Unnao rape case by the Delhi CBI Court. It also welcomes the fact that the Court has directed that adequate steps be taken by the CBI to ensure the life and liberty of the survivor and her family is protected by providing a safe house and change of identity if so desired by the family.
AIDWA condemns brutal police action inside University campuses

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemns the barbaric police action unleashed in a number of university campuses where spontaneous peaceful protests of teachers and students have been going on first against unwarranted fee hikes and more recently against the unconstitutional Citizenship Amendment Act enacted by BJP through its brute majority in the Parliament.

AIDWA strongly condemns the manner in which in some recent cases of rape and murder or attempted murders action or inaction of police and administration has demonstrated total failure of the justice system in such cases. Rape survivors in Unnao, UP, who showed the courage to lodge cases were subjected to murderous attacks (the second one set on fire by accused freed on bail) in which police were unable to protect witnesses.
AIDWA demands Chinmayand victim be allowed to sit for her exams

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemns the decision of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in Bareilly, UP denying permission to the 23 year old victim in the Chinmayanand rape case to sit for her LLM’s third semester examination. The University has stated that the victim does not have the required 75 percent attendance and will therefore not be able to take her exams. It has asked her to get a court order to appear for the exams.
AIDWA Condemns Police Atrocities On JNU Students

The All India Democratic Women’s Association strongly condemns the police brutality unleashed on a peaceful mass protest led by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union on 11 November 2019. It notes with concern that students, many of whom were women, were manhandled and lathi charged without any provocation, for protesting against a massive hike in hostel fees without any due processes and democratic consultation with the elected representatives of either students or teachers.
AIDWA Protests Arrest And Harassment Of Victim In Chinmayanand Case And Demands Immediate Release

AIDWA strongly condemns the force arrest and harassment of the victim in the Chinmayanand case and demands immediate withdrawal of the alleged extortion case lodged against her. It condemns the role played by the SIT and Uttar Pradesh Police under pressure from the Yogi Government. The Rape case against Chinmayanand was filled on August 27, 2019 but the accused was arrested only after 14 days after a public outcry. The sections under which Chinmayanand has been arrested have also been diluted. Despite the statement of the victim under Section 164 no medical examination was done.
AIDWA condemns police brutality unleashed on students and youth under the TMC regime.

AIDWA strongly condemns the police brutality and atrocities on the peaceful march of Left students and youth from Singur to Nabanno which was scheduled on 12th and 13th September. All the left students’ and youth organisations of W. Bengal gave the call for a united march to demand jobs for youth, and peace in educational institutions. They mobilised thousands of students and youth under this banner, who marched for two days from Singur, the epitome of abandoned industrialisation - to the Chief Minister's office at Nabanno.
AIDWA demands that the transfer of Madras Chief Justice V.K Tahilramani be withdrawn

The recent transfer of Chief Justice Vijaya Tahilramani from the Madras High Court to the Meghalaya High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium has created justified consternation among sections of people who hold the judiciary and the Indian Constitution in high esteem. It is unfortunate that the Collegium has stuck to its decision despite the request from the Chief Justice that her transfer may be reconsidered.
AIDWA Condemns RHRC Order Against Live-In Relationships

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemns the Order of the Rajasthan Human Rights Commission (RHRC) against live-in relationships. The Rajasthan HRC issued an order asking the state government and the Centre to "prohibit" the practice of live-in relationships. The order passed by Justice Mahesh Chand Sharma and Justice Prakash Tantia claimed that women who opt for live-in relationships are like "concubines".
